A warranty policy describes the cover a customer gets with a product: how long support lasts, how long a replacement is possible and, for licenses, how long the customer has to activate. You write a policy once and reuse it. Each product either has its own policy or uses the store's default, and your store shows the result on the product page.

Before you start

Warranty Policies is a row in the Apps group of the sidebar. If you do not see it, switch it on under Sidebar.

Create a warranty policy

  1. Open Warranty Policies and select Create policy.

  2. Enter a Name, for example "Digital standard 30-day policy", and a Code, for example digital-standard-30.

  3. Choose the Template the policy is shown with: Standard warranty or Digital license standard.

  4. Enter the windows in days: Activation window (days), Support window (days) and Replacement window (days).

  5. Switch on Infinite support if support has no end date. The policy is then shown as ongoing support.

  6. Switch on Replacement after window if the notice after the replacement window should still say that the product is covered by the policy terms.

  7. Leave Active policy on. An inactive policy cannot be assigned to products and cannot be the default.

  8. Switch on Default fallback if products without their own policy should show this one.

  9. Select Save changes. The policy appears in the list.

Choose the default policy

The default is the policy shown on every product that has no policy of its own.

  1. Open Warranty Policies.

  2. Open the menu at the end of the policy's row and select Set default.

  3. The policy now carries the Default badge.

Clear default in the same menu removes the default. Products without their own policy then show no warranty policy.

Assign a policy to a product

  1. Open the product and find the Warranty policy panel.

  2. Under Product assignment, choose a policy. To go back to the store default, choose Use default fallback.

  3. Select Save policy.

The panel shows which policy is in effect and its windows, for example the length of support and replacement. A policy assigned to the product takes priority over the default. Open policy manager takes you to the list of policies.

Edit or delete a policy

Open the menu at the end of a policy's row.

  • Edit opens the policy with the same fields as when you created it.
  • Delete removes the policy after you confirm.

Good to know

  • The list shows each policy's name, code, template, its windows as activation, support and replacement in days, and whether it is Active or Inactive.
  • If the policy assigned to a product is inactive, your store falls back to the default policy for that product. The Warranty policy panel says so.
  • Only one policy can be the default at a time.
  • A warranty policy is information shown to customers. It does not create returns or refunds by itself. For those, see Returns.
