Shopify hands you your data as CSV files. You export them in Shopify, drop them into Poltura, and Poltura reads them. Your Shopify store is never changed.
What moves
- Products with their variants, prices, stock, images, categories and tags.
- Customers with their addresses and newsletter choice.
- Past orders, which go to a read-only order archive.
- The old product addresses, which become redirects.
Shopify's export files do not carry discounts, gift cards or reviews. Add those by hand, or with an app, after the import.
Export from Shopify
In the Shopify admin, open Products and choose Export. Export All products as a CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.
Open Customers and choose Export. Export All customers as CSV.
Open Orders and choose Export. Export all the orders you want to keep, as CSV.
In Poltura, open Settings and choose Import, pick Shopify, and drop the files.
Poltura recognizes each file by its columns, so you do not map anything. Type your Shopify address in the shop field, so a later import of the same shop recognizes what already arrived.
Matching
Shopify custom fields (metafields) are exported as extra product columns. In Change what to import, under Matching, choose which of them become product attributes, for example Material or Capacity. Customer tags can become customer groups, for example a wholesale tag.
Bring over what changed later
While your Shopify store still sells, export again and start a new import with the same shop address. Records that did not change stay as they are. Records you edited in Poltura are kept, and the ones changed in both places are listed under Changed here and in Shopify, where you choose the version that stays for each.
To hide the products you removed in Shopify, switch on Hide products that disappeared from Shopify. They are hidden, never deleted.
When you have switched
Choose Finish moving on the Done step. It deletes our copy of your Shopify data and keeps your redirects and everything imported.
You can tick Invite my customers to set a password. Poltura then emails the customers it brought, so they can set a password for their account here. You can preview the email first. It is never sent by itself. It goes out only when you tick it, in small batches, 500 customers on the first day and a bit more each day after, so it stays out of spam.
If something goes wrong
- A file is not recognized. Export it again from Shopify as CSV, or choose Match columns and place the columns yourself.
- Prices look wrong. Prices are read in your store's currency. Check the currency on the Review step.
- Something still does not work. Contact Poltura support.
