Every new store starts private. You can build it for free, with no card and no time limit. Going live means choosing a paid plan: as soon as the first payment goes through, the store opens to customers. The go-live flow is in beta.
What a private store can and cannot do
While the store is private, every admin page shows a bar that says Your store is private.
- Visitors see your Coming soon page instead of the store, and nobody can place an order.
- Search engines are asked not to index the store.
- No emails are sent to customers. Emails to your team still go out.
- You can add products, design the storefront, set up payments and delivery and connect your own domain.
- The customer inbox and credit packs become available once the store is live.
Preview your store before it opens
Select Preview store in the bar at the top of the admin.
The storefront opens in a new tab. The preview works on that device for 12 hours.
To show the store to someone outside your team, share it with a password. See Store status.
Before you start
- Finish the setup guide, so that customers can pay and receive their order on day one.
- Have your company's billing details and a bank card at hand.
- You need permission to manage billing. If you do not have it, ask the owner of the organization.
Go live
Select Go live in the bar at the top of the admin. You can also start from Settings and Plan & billing.
On the Plan step, choose a plan and whether you pay monthly or yearly. If you have an offer, it is already included in the prices shown.
On the Company step, choose or enter the company that pays for the store. These details appear on every invoice. Select Continue.
On the Card step, enter your card and select Save card and continue. If you already saved a card, choose Continue with this card.
On the last step, Check and go live, read the summary: the plan, what is charged today, the VAT and the following bills.
Above the button, a highlighted box lists the terms you accept expressly. Tick I expressly accept the highlighted terms above. Placing the order also accepts the Terms of service with its annexes and the Data processing agreement; the line under the button links to each.
Select Go live and pay. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment.
The page confirms that your store is live. Select Open my store to see it.
The invoice arrives by email. You find it later under Plan and billing.
After you go live
- The store opens automatically. You can close it again at any time, for example behind a Maintenance page, under Store status.
- Customers can now order, and order emails are sent. Check Emails and place a test order.
- The customer inbox becomes available on your plan.
- To use your own web address, see Domains.
- Your plan decides your limits and included AI credits. See Plan and billing.
Good to know
- There is no free trial period. The private stage itself is free and has no end date.
- If you start the flow but the payment never completes, the store stays private and any offer you had is kept for you.
- With an offer that starts with a free period, the store opens right away and nothing is charged that day.
- A private store that nobody on your team opens for 30 days is locked: its storefront stays closed and it stops running, but its data is kept. 30 days after the lock, the store is deleted with all its data. The owners get a warning email 14 and 3 days before the lock, and again 14 and 3 days before the deletion. Opening the store in the admin restarts the 30 days before the lock. Once the store is locked, only starting a paid plan unlocks it.
- If a payment fails later, the store can become unavailable until it is paid. Visitors then see a Payment needed page. See Plan and billing.
If something goes wrong
- The page says your bank is still confirming the payment. You can return to the admin. The store opens by itself as soon as the payment goes through.
- The Store status page says "Opening your store needs a plan." The store is still private. Go live first.
- You do not see the Go live button. Your role may not include billing. Ask the organization's owner. See People and roles.
- Your company's tax details need attention. Correct them in the billing account before you pay. See Plan and billing.
