# Delivery

Set where you ship and what shipping costs at checkout, reuse delivery rules across products and control digital delivery.

- Where: Settings → Delivery

The Delivery page is where you start with everything about getting an order to the buyer. From here you manage shipping for physical products (locations, zones and rates). You also manage delivery for digital products and delivery rules you can reuse.

![The Delivery page with the What you deliver list and the Product delivery rules section, which has no rules yet](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery.webp)

_Each row of What you deliver opens its own settings._

The page has two sections:

- **What you deliver**: **Physical products** with **Manage shipping**, and **Digital products** with **Manage digital delivery**.
- **Product delivery rules**: delivery methods you reuse across products, collections or categories.

## Before you start

- You need the Owner, Administrator or Store manager role to change shipping.
- Shipping is set up per location, the place you ship from. A new store has one. You add locations and connect courier apps to them on the developer-mode [Locations and shipping](https://docs.poltura.com/en/developer/locations-and-shipping/#locations) pages. The links **Add location** and **Connect a courier** take you there.
- Courier services come as apps. Install and set up the app first: [GLS](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/gls/), [Foxpost](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/foxpost/), [MPL](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/mpl/), [DPD](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/dpd/) or [UPS](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/ups/).

## How shipping is organized

- A **location** is where you ship from.
- A **shipping zone** is a group of countries that location ships to.
- A **rate** is one delivery option customers can choose at checkout in a zone, with its courier and price.

A customer sees the rates of every zone that contains the country of their shipping address.

## Set up shipping for a location

1. Open **Settings**, choose **Delivery** and click **Manage shipping**. The **Shipping and delivery** page lists your locations with their zones, rates, local pickup and delivery methods.

![The Shipping and delivery page with one location, Main warehouse, its zones, rates, local pickup and Foxpost as delivery method](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery-locations.webp)

2. Click a location's name, or **Manage** on its row.

3. Click **Create zone**. Type a **Zone name** (customers never see it) and pick the **Countries**. The [countries you sell to](https://docs.poltura.com/en/settings/markets/#countries) are listed first. Save.

![The page of the Main warehouse location with the Create zone button, two shipping zones and their rates](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery-location.webp)

_The plus icon on a zone adds a rate to it._

4. On the zone click **Add rate**.

5. Type the **Rate name**. This is what checkout shows the customer, for example Standard or Express.

6. Choose the **Courier**. **Manual** means you handle delivery yourself.

7. Optionally fill in **Fastest delivery, in working days** and **Slowest delivery, in working days**. Price comparison sites and marketplaces show it as the delivery time.

8. Under **Price** type an amount for every currency your store sells in. Use `0` for free shipping. A field named **Price for** followed by a market's name sets a different price for that market only.

9. Save. The rate is listed under its zone with its courier and price.

> **Warning**
>
> Give every currency a price. A rate with an empty currency field is shown as free at checkout, but a customer paying in that currency cannot select it. Type amounts with a dot, for example `4.99`. A comma or a space is refused.

To change a zone or a rate, click its edit icon or the rate's name.

### What these pages cannot do

Some shipping tasks are available only in developer mode, on the [Locations and shipping](https://docs.poltura.com/en/developer/locations-and-shipping/#shipping-options) pages:

- deleting a zone or a rate,
- hiding a rate from the storefront,
- prices that depend on the order value, such as free shipping above an amount,
- a rate for a courier's pickup points or parcel lockers when the courier offers several services. A rate created here uses the courier's first service.

> **Warning**
>
> Saving a rate here makes it visible in the storefront again and clears its storefront info message. If you hid a rate or added a message in developer mode, edit that rate there, not here.

## Delivery times

**Delivery times** tells buyers when an order ships and when it arrives. Product pages, checkout and price comparison sites read it. Open it from **Settings**, **Delivery**, **Delivery times**.

Until you save the page once, buyers see only a rough delivery time such as 1–2 working days, with no dates and no countdown.

1. Under **Dispatch** choose the **Order deadline** (in your store's time zone), tick the **Dispatch days** and set the **Handling time** in working days. **Lead time when out of stock** is added for products that can be backordered.

![The Dispatch section of Delivery times with the order deadline, the dispatch days, the handling time and the lead time when out of stock](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery-times.webp)

2. Under **Holidays** check the next 90 days. Public holidays and moved rest days are skipped automatically. Switch on **I dispatch that day** for a moved working Saturday you work.

3. Under **Own closed days** click **Add closed days** for time off or stocktaking.

4. Under **Delivery time by carrier** type the fastest and slowest working days for each shipping method. Switch on **Also on Saturday** where the carrier delivers then. The faint numbers are the carrier app's suggestion. A carrier that waits to be connected shows **Connect**.

5. **How buyers see it now** shows the result for a product in stock. Click **Save**.

The handling time and the lead time are store defaults. You can override both on a product's **Delivery** card, and per variant.

## Reuse a delivery rule across products

A delivery rule says how the buyer receives a group of products, for example "downloadable guides are delivered as private files".

1. On the **Delivery** page click **Create rule**.

![The Create rule drawer with the rule name, the products it applies to, the delivery method and the status](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery-rule.webp)

_The drawer walks you through choosing products, then delivery._

2. Type a **Rule name**.

3. In **Apply this rule to** choose **Choose on individual products** (you then select the rule on each product or variant) or **Collections, categories or tags** (matching products get it automatically).

4. Choose the **Delivery method**: **Physical**, **Your own keys**, **Private files** or **Digital supplier**. **Add another delivery method** combines up to three, for example a printed book with an ebook.

5. Leave **Status** on **Active** and click **Save**. The rule is listed on the page.

- Open a rule to edit it. Under **Default and removal** you find **Use as store default** and **Delete rule**.
- The store default applies to products without their own choice and without a matching rule.
- A choice made on a product or variant always wins over a rule.
- Avoid two active rules that match the same product through their groups. Such a product has no delivery setup until you choose a rule on the product itself.

## Digital delivery

**Manage digital delivery** opens the **Digital delivery** page. It links to your license keys, private downloads and the delivery rules. It also shows whether automatic delivery is **Enabled** or **Paused**.

![The Digital delivery page, marked Paused, with links to license keys, private downloads and delivery rules, and the optional apps below](https://docs.poltura.com/screenshots/en/settings/delivery-digital.webp)

_The tag next to the title shows whether delivery is on._

- **Pause deliveries** stops new digital deliveries across the store. Pending key retrievals expire. Buyers keep the keys and files they already received.
- **Enable deliveries** turns delivery back on.

Keys, files and supplier apps are described under [Digital products](https://docs.poltura.com/en/products/digital-products/#delivery-settings).

## Good to know

- A warning **Standard delivery is free until you set a price** means the rate created with your store still has no price. Click **Set a price**.
- **Not covered** on a location's row counts the countries you sell to that none of its zones contains. Customers there see "No shipping options are available for your address."
- A country can be in several zones. Checkout then offers the rates of all of them.
- Rates of a courier that is switched off are not offered at checkout, although they stay listed here.
- When the store adds a currency later, existing rates have no price in it until you edit each rate.

## If something goes wrong

- **"Connect a courier first".** The location has no delivery method linked. Use **Connect a courier**.
- **"That value is not one this screen can send."** An amount contains a comma or a space. Type it with a dot and no spaces.
- **"Enter whole working days from 0 to 60."** Delivery days must be whole numbers.
- **A customer cannot select a delivery option.** The rate has no price in their currency. Edit the rate and fill in that currency.
- **"The couriers behind your delivery options are switched off".** Switch the courier app on again, or add a rate with another courier.
