# TikTok

Run the TikTok Pixel on every storefront page, checkout included, and send checkout steps and purchases from the server through the Events API.

- Where: App Store → TikTok

The TikTok app runs the TikTok Pixel on your storefront. It also sends checkout steps and purchases from the server, through TikTok's Events API. This way TikTok ads count your sales even when a browser blocks the pixel. Both run only for shoppers who accept marketing cookies.

The app installs on every plan and works in every country.

## Before you start

- A TikTok Ads Manager account with a pixel. You create one under **Tools**, **Events**, **Connect data source**, **Web**; pick **TikTok Pixel + Events API** under manual setup.
- The pixel ID, which Events Manager shows next to your pixel.
- For the Events API: an access token, which you generate on your pixel's **Settings** tab in Events Manager with **Generate Access Token**.

## Set up TikTok

1. Open the **App Store** and open **TikTok**. Select **Install**. See [App Store](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/#install).

2. Under **Settings**, paste your pixel ID into **Pixel ID**, or the whole pixel base code: the field finds the ID in it.

3. Paste the access token into **Events API access token**.

4. Select **Save**, and turn the app on if it is off. See [App Store](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/#turn-on).

5. Check the connection on the [Tracking](https://docs.poltura.com/en/settings/tracking/) page. See [Check the setup](https://docs.poltura.com/en/apps/tiktok/#check).

## Settings

- **Pixel ID**: the ID of your pixel from Events Manager, letters and digits, or the base code holding it. Only the ID is saved. The pixel stays off until it is set.
- **Events API access token**: lets Poltura send checkout steps and purchases from the server too, so an order still counts when an ad blocker stops the pixel. It is stored sealed and never reaches the storefront.
- **Test event code**: while it is set, server events go to **Test events** in Events Manager instead of your reports. Clear it when you are done checking.
- **Customer data for better matching**: when the shopper accepts marketing cookies, checkout events also carry their email, phone number, name, postal code and customer ID as an irreversible code (SHA-256) (Advanced Matching). Mention it in your privacy policy.
- **Conversion value**: the order total, or the products only, without shipping.
- **Send events from the server**: on by default. Needs the access token. With marketing consent, server events carry the shopper's TikTok click ID and cookie, IP address and browser, so TikTok can tie them to your ads.

The pixel and the server send each event with the same event ID, so TikTok keeps one copy of it.

### What is sent

- Every page, as a page view.
- Product pages as `ViewContent`, searches as `Search`, and products added to the cart or the wishlist as `AddToCart` and `AddToWishlist`.
- Checkout start as `InitiateCheckout`, payment details as `AddPaymentInfo`, and an order as `Purchase` with its value, currency, order ID and products.
- Sign-ups as `CompleteRegistration`, and contact forms and newsletter sign-ups as `Lead`.

Products are named by their variant ID, the same ID your product feeds use. Amounts are in the cart's or order's own currency. The server sends `AddToCart`, `InitiateCheckout`, `AddPaymentInfo` and `Purchase`.

### Checkout and the order pages

The pixel runs on every page, checkout included, under a security policy that lets it reach only TikTok's own services. Advanced Matching data reaches the pixel only on the thank-you page; the server events carry it for the checkout steps. See [Tracking](https://docs.poltura.com/en/settings/tracking/).

### What shoppers see on your storefront

Nothing changes on the page. The pixel loads only after the shopper accepts marketing cookies, and the cookie table lists TikTok's cookies while a Pixel ID is set. See [Cookie consent](https://docs.poltura.com/en/online-store/cookie-consent/).

## Check the setup

Open **Settings**, then [Tracking](https://docs.poltura.com/en/settings/tracking/), and use the buttons on the TikTok card:

- **Test connection** checks that TikTok accepts the access token.
- **Send a test event** sends one product view to **Test events** in Events Manager. Type the code TikTok shows there, or set it as **Test event code**.

## If something goes wrong

- **The pixel does not fire.** Check that the Pixel ID is set and the app is on, and that the shopper accepted marketing cookies.
- **Test connection says the token is not accepted.** Generate a new access token on the pixel's **Settings** tab and paste it again. A token works only for pixels of the ad account it was made in.
- **Server events are not sent.** Check the access token and that the shopper accepted marketing cookies. The event log under [Tracking](https://docs.poltura.com/en/settings/tracking/) says why each event was sent, skipped or refused.
- **TikTok counts events twice.** A TikTok pixel also runs from your Google Tag Manager container. Turn one of them off, or send the data layer's `event_id` as the tag's event ID.
- **Events land in Test events instead of your reports.** Clear **Test event code**.
